Guitarist Kevin Garant diverse musical career has taken him into the worlds of the music, television and film industries. He has performed all over the USA, Europe, Australia, and throughout Asia. 

 

Born in Boston, Mass USA  Kevin’s obsession with music and sound started early begging his parents for a guitar at the age of 3 and a drum kit at age 7 spending more time exploding sounds than playing with toys. At age 9 formal music study began on trumpet with lessons in primary school and private teachers. Music lessons quickly expanded to guitar and drums as trumpet was not that interesting. 

At 11 years old Kevin was put in charge of his father’s Webber Reel to Reel Tape recorder learning all modes and methods of operation the tape recorder including play back of monthly tapes being sent from an Aunt and Uncle who were living in Japan. Also, making recording of the entire family voices, noises and sounds to be sent to Japan. 

 

Serious Guitar Student 

After studying with several top local Boston local guitar teachers including Mick Goodrick, Leo Quintero and Pat Metheny. On recommendation from his teacher at age 19 started studying in Philly with Pat Martino. 

 

 

In early 80’s Kevin moved to New York City in the worked with everyone from record producer / Miles Davis guitarist Reggie  Lucas The Weather Girls. Sting to Afrika Bambaataa to Hall & Oates to Vanilla Ice. Appeared on MTV  world tours with Sting Nothing like the Sun and Amnesty International Human Rights Now.

 

NGSW 

Kevin was a Special Guest Instructor at the NGSW teaching a one week Guitar Master Class for five years working with Henry Kasier, Adrian Belew and Bill Frisell.

 

 

1995 Relocating to Melbourne, Australia  Kevin formed the Largest Living Things with ex-Crowded House and Split Enz drummer/vocalist Paul Hester. The Largest Living Things performed throughout Australia and had their own television series on the ABC "Hessie’s Shed" which aired in Australia, New Zealand, the UK and on MTV in Europe.  The Largest Living Things were also the house band on the legendary short lived Mick Molloy Show on the Nine Network in Australia. 

 

Kevin has played guitar with Australia’s finest artists including Neil Finn (Crowded House), Paul Kelly, Mandawuy Yunupingu (Yothu Yindi), Rob Hirst (Midnight Oil), Archie Roach, Stephen Cummings, Colin Hay (Men at Work), Debra Conway, Mick Thomas (Weddings, Parties, Anything) Vika and Linda Bull, Ruby Hunter, Ross Hanaford, Renne Geyer, Dan Warner (Overnight Jones) Kutcha Edwards, and Ross Wilson to name a few

Largest Living Things
